Inconel 718 is a precipitation-hardened nickel-chromium alloy that also contains large amounts of iron, niobium and molybdenum and small amounts of aluminum and titanium. It combines corrosion resistance and high strength with excellent weldability (including resistance to post-weld cracking).
The alloy has excellent creep fracture strength at temperatures up to 1300°F (700°C).
Alloy718 Process properties and requirements:
1. Due to the high niobium content in alloy718 alloy, the degree of niobium segregation in the alloy is directly related to the gold treatment process.
2, in order to avoid excessive segregation of the elements in the ingot, the diameter of the ingot is not greater than 508mm.
3. The homogenized alloy has good thermal processing performance, and the opening heating temperature of the ingot shall not exceed 1120℃.
4. The average grain size of the alloy is closely related to the deformation degree of the forging and the final forging temperature.
5, The alloy has satisfactory welding performance, can be welded by argon arc welding, electron beam welding, seam welding, spot welding and other methods.
6, Alloy different solution treatment and aging treatment process will get different material properties. Due to the low diffusion rate of the γ "phase, the best
mechanical properties of Inconel718 alloy can be obtained through long-term aging treatment.
Inconel 718 main properties:
1. Chemical composition : The main chemical composition of Inconel 718 includes nickel (50-55%), chromium (17-21%), iron (surplus), niobium (4.75-5.5%), molybdenum (2.8-3.3%), titanium (0.65-1.15%) and aluminum (0.2-0.8%)
2. Physical properties : Inconel 718 has a density of about 8.19 g/cm³ and a melting point between 1260 and 1340°C. In the temperature range of 20-100°C, the coefficient of thermal expansion is about 13.0 μm/m·°C, and the thermal conductivity is 11.4 W/m·K
3. Mechanical properties : Inconel 718 has excellent mechanical properties, including tensile strength (about 1400 MPa at room temperature), yield strength (about 1150 MPa at room temperature), elongation (about 25%) and hardness (about 40-44 HRC at aging)
4 Corrosion resistance : Inconel 718 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in oxidizing, acidic, alkaline and chloride ion environments. Its chromium content and other alloying elements enhance its resistance to sulfides and oxides
5. High temperature strength and creep resistance : Inconel 718 maintains stable mechanical properties and corrosion resistance at temperatures up to 700°C. It shows good creep resistance at high temperatures, especially under long-term load
6. Machinability : Although Inconel 718 has high strength, it has good machinability under appropriate processing conditions and can be manufactured by conventional milling, turning and welding
Application Areas:
Due to its high temperature strength at 700℃ and excellent corrosion resistance, easy processing, Inconel718 alloy can be widely used in a variety of demanding applications.
1. Steam Turbine
2. Liquid fuel rockets
3. Cryogenic engineering
4. Acidic environment
5. Nuclear engineering
